Recent conferences

I have been fortunate to take part in three great conferences in the summer of 2022, relating to my research interests in pragmatics, stylistics and philosophy of language.

Philosophy’s Experimental Turn and the Challenge from Ordinary Language

This was held in Berlin in June, organised by Eugene Fischer and Nat Hansen, who brought together a collection of ordinary language philosophers, experimental philosophers and linguists for three days of debate and fascinating discussion. A topical issue of Synthese on ‘Experiments and Ordinary Language Philosophy’ is planned.

Society for the Study of the History of Analytical Philosophy

The tenth annual conference of SSHAP, held online in July, included many interesting papers, and was smoothly hosted by the School of Philosophy, Shanxi University, China, despite the numerous competing time zones involved.

Poetics and Linguistics Association

PALA was back face to face in July, hosted by Aix-Marseille Université, and organised by Sandrine Sorlin, Linda Pillière and their team. It was great to see everyone again, three years after PALA in Liverpool. There were excellent papers throughout the four days of the conference, and Billy Clark and I were really pleased to be able to host our SIG on Pragmatics and Literature once again.
